About the Artist

Sarah Boys is a professional artist residing in Calgary, Canada, with her family. Sarah completed a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Psychology and primarily works in oil, ink, and watercolor painting. Her pieces focus on cosmic elements and planetary imagery. These vibrant and colorful works invite the viewer into a world where stars explode, energy flows, and life’s grandeur is laid bare. Her work can best be described as cosmic landscapes as it reflects a fascination with the universe’s raw power and beauty.

Sarah's work has shown across Western Canada and is held in private collections.

Sarah primarily works in oil and watercolor painting. Her works are inspired by research into astral phenomenon, asking how advances in technology that have allowed us to explore and document regions in space, that previously only existed in the imagination, have impacted our understanding of earth's place in the cosmos. For example, telescopic images of star bursts and hydrogen gas clouds are awe-inspiring, however, there is a disconnect between these images and everyday life.  Cosmic events like supernovae and cosmic gushers seem like something from a myth or fairy tale, yet they are as real as the ground we walk on.

Sarah's paintings bridge the two “worlds” together, to bring the galaxy within reach.  Like a ladder to the stars, through the ceiling of clouds and the billions of miles, extending from the surface of the earth to the cosmos - like wonder rooted by gravity.

In Sarah's art, stars explode flinging subatomic shards, not just in far-away realms, but here, on earth. Trees move in trails of color as they rotate with the earth. Clouds roar in the night sky with burning blazing star clusters and suns burst red with the heat of 20 million degrees. Northern lights scatter across the sky, the result of high energy particles from the sun raining down and inflaming the upper atmosphere. Life, energy, and creation exude from her landscapes unveiling the reality of our earth alive amidst a turbulent and fabulous universe. In Sarah’s smaller works, she studies these microcosms of energetic pulses that underlie “common” things such as flowers and birds as well as exploring abstractions in cosmic visuals. Evoking a sense of awe and wonder, her works peel back the layers of habitual sight that cloud our perceptions and portray a powerful universe unfolding itself before us.
